Wendell Yount

Wendell Jerome Yount, 85 of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond Heights, MO.

Wendell was born on December 4, 1933 in Kennett, MO; the son of the late Ernest and Dolly Mae (Davis) Yount. Wendell worked in maintenance for over 40 years at Connector Casting in St. Louis and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Granite City V.F.W. and in his free time enjoyed his days of sitting in his back yard reading the newspaper. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.

Wendell is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Bessie J. (Rutledge) Yount, whom he married on September 9, 1994; step-son, Charles Douglas (Joanna) Tucker Jr. of Searcy, AR; step-daughter, Charlotte Marie Tucker of Granite City, IL; grandchildren, Jeannie Kay, Mary Jane, Jessica, William, Michelle, Brandi, Kelly, Stephanie; 10 great-grandchildren and many other close family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Wendell was preceded in death by his son; Wendell Curtis Yount; step-daughter, Pamela R. Street; brother, Kenneth R. (Linda) Yount; sister, Helen Box.

In celebration of Wendell’s life, visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Henry Crippen officiating at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Burial will follow with full military rites on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorial donations are suggested to the Salvation Army or to Honor Flight.
