Peter Theodore “Ted” Vas, III, 69, of Shiloh, IL, born on August 17, 1955, in Hollywood, FL, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at his home.
After graduating from Englewood High School, Ted went on to earn his bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida while playing for the Gators football team. His path led him to the Navy where he quickly became a distinguished Pilot of the P3 Orion aircraft. While serving our country, Ted earned multiple career awards and combat medals for his tours in the Gulf War, including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
When Ted wasn’t flying planes, he was a proud and loving father who always enjoyed fishing, boating, and pulling for his boys’ teams. He was an avid cook in his prime and was always willing to share a recipe, or two, with family and friends. Upon retirement he officially took on the role of Grandpa and lovingly cared for and watched his grandchildren excel and grow in school, cheerleading, and as many sporting events as he could attend. He will be greatly missed by all that know him.
Ted was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Jo Vas (nee Lannom).
Left to cherish Ted’s memory are his three children, Peter (Laura) Vas IV of Glen Carbon, IL, Travis (Athena) Vas of O’Fallon, IL, Christopher Vas of Shiloh, IL; father, Peter Theodore Vas Jr.; former spouse, Nannette Vas of Breese, IL; two sisters, Pam (Duane) Alday of Jacksonville, FL, Vicky (Paul) Plescow of Burke, VA; five grandchildren, Morgan Vas, Peter Vas, Addison Vas, Willow Vas, Autumn Vas; along with many nieces and nephews.
