Mike A. Maroon, age 79, of Highland, died Saturday, May 3, 2025, at his home. He was born July 13, 1945, in Highland, a son of the late Eugene and Veda, nee Kelly, Maroon. Mike married Pat, nee Knabel, Maroon of Highland on April 4, 1964, at Alhambra Salem Church.
In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his daughters, Tina (Steve) Wheeler of Highland, Tami (Darin) Meskil of Vero Beach, FL, and Tricia (Matt) Schuepbach of Highland; grandchildren, Michaela (Kyle) Delane, Marissa (Blake) Hustedde, Brennon and Blake Austin, and Kade and Mya Schuepbach; great-granddaughter, Kinsley Delane and was highly anticipating the birth of his second great-grandchild, Hendricks Hustedde in September; siblings, Jeanne Arro of Maryville and Stan (Diane) Maroon of Highland; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ron (Jo) Knabel of Greeneville, TN, Judy (Butch) Kuhn of Trenton, and Barb (Ken) Randle of Alhambra; an aunt, Eunice Rogier; his fur babies, Lizzy and Luna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Dorothy, nee Kaltenbacher, Knabel; a brother-in-law, Mike Arro; and an uncle, Floyd Rogier.
Mike retired after 25 years from Madison Mutual Insurance in Edwardsville where he worked in appraisals. He was a member of Mosaic Church in Highland, Highland Masonic Lodge #583, Ma Cli Bo Shriner’s, Shriner’s Roadrunner, Highland Moose Lodge 2479, Highland Sportsman Club, and was a retired Assistant Chief of the Grantfork Fire Department. Mike was a true outdoorsman and especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping, but above all, his greatest love was attending his grandchildren’s school, musical, and sporting events.
Visitation will be Monday, May 12, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., with a Highland Masonic Lodge Service at 6:30 p.m. and again Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
Memorial Service will be Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. At Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland with Rev. Dan Perry and Rev. Matt Embry officiating.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or the Highland Sportsman Club and will be received at the funeral home or by mail, Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, PO Box 187, Highland, IL 62249 who is serving the family.
