
GRANITE CITY — An officer was shot Friday afternoon, Dec. 5, 2025, in the parking lot of Pizza World on Johnson Road, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred around 2:20 p.m., according to Granite City Police Chief Gary Brooks.
Police responded to the 2000 block of Johnson Road when a suspect fired multiple shots at an officer, striking him. The injured officer was immediately transported to a hospital in the St. Louis area for treatment. Chief Brooks said he spoke with the officer before a 5 p.m. press conference and expressed hope for “a full recovery.”
Authorities are actively searching for the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous. Brooks urged the public not to approach the individual if spotted and noted that photos of the suspect would be released shortly.
Some nearby businesses in the vicinity of the shooting have closed at present.
A significant police presence remains in the area as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officials have not released further details about the incident.
