Alton Police Probe Deadly Milton Drive Shooting

ALTON — A person of interest is in custody following a fatal shooting investigation in the 3400 block of Milton Drive, where Alton police said an adult woman was killed and an adult man was critically injured early Monday morning, June 1, 2026.

The Alton Police Department said on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, that the case is expected to be presented to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office for formal charges on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

“Regarding the shooting incident that occurred Monday morning in the 3400 block of Milton Drive in Alton, a person of interest is currently in custody,” the Alton Police Department said on Tuesday morning.

Police said the department received a 911 call at about 7:57 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2026, reporting that two people had been shot inside a residence in the 3400 block of Milton Drive. Officers who responded found both victims suffering from severe injuries, according to police.

Personnel from the Alton Fire Department and EMS also responded to the scene. Police said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to a hospital in the St. Louis area for further treatment.

Police said no further information would be released at this time.

“The Alton Police Department will provide additional updates as they become available,” the department said.
