COLLINSVILLE — Illinois State Police announced the results of roadside safety checks conducted in Madison and St. Clair counties in May, reporting 65 total citations and arrests, including three DUI citations, as part of an effort aimed at improving roadway safety.
ISP Troop 8 Commander Capt. Casey Faro announced the results of the Roadside Safety Checks, or RSCs, in a statement released from Collinsville. The enforcement activity also resulted in two other alcohol- or drug-related citations, four occupant restraint offenses, 17 registration offenses, 24 driver’s license offenses, and eight insurance violations. Troopers also issued 25 written warnings.
Illinois State Police said roadside safety checks are designed to keep roads safe by removing dangerous DUI offenders from the road.
According to the agency, alcohol and drug impairment are estimated to be a factor in more than 47% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. The agency also said there is one alcohol-related traffic fatality every 39 minutes in the United States.
The project was funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
