Man Dies After Armed Standoff On Tapestry Drive

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — St. Louis County Police detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting after officers responding to a welfare check Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 15, 2026, in the 200 block of Tapestry Drive encountered a subject who fired shots from inside a residence, police said.

Officers from the South County Precinct responded at 2:14 p.m. Tuesday to the home in St. Louis, Missouri, 63129. When they arrived, a subject fired shots from inside the residence, according to the St. Louis County Police Department.

Police said officers established containment and requested the St. Louis County Police Tactical Operations Unit and a crisis negotiator. While officers remained on scene, the subject fired numerous rounds from inside the residence at adjacent homes and in the direction of police officers, police said.

After arriving, Tactical Operations Unit officers made several attempts to contact the subject and gave multiple verbal commands by loudspeaker for him to exit the residence. Police said the subject continued to fire his weapon.

During the incident, a Tactical Operations Unit officer fired his weapon into the residence. After numerous attempts to make contact, Tactical Operations Unit officers breached the door and entered the residence, police said. Inside, they found the male subject suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said it is unknown whether the subject’s injuries were caused by police gunfire or were self-inflicted.

The officer involved is 44 years old and has 18 years of law enforcement experience, police said. No officers were physically injured.

The St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is investigating. Police said the investigation remains active and preliminary details could change.
