One Person In Custody After Two Gun Crimes Committed Across Madison County

ALTON – Several area police departments were kept busy Tuesday night after a person committed a shooting and an armed robbery across Madison County before fleeing to a home in Alton.

The shooting happened just before 8pm when a black passenger car with at least one-person inside was shooting at another vehicle going southbound route 3 just around Hartford. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle. No injuies were reported.

Then just after 9:30 PM Mitchell Fire Department and Madison County Sheriff Department responded to the Budget Motel on W. Chain of Rocks Road, after a armed robbery had occurred.

Officers learned that a victim was robbed at gunpoint and was struck in the face with the gun. The person refused medical treatment. Durning the investigation police learned the two crimes were connected.

After running the suspects plates it was found out that the car was from Alton. Alton Police Department located the vehicle outside the residence in the 2800 block of Circle Drive.

Due to the severity of the crimes several area departments along with the Madison County Sherriff’s Department Bearcat responded to the house to help. Officers were able to take someone into custody without any injuries.

Charges could be filed today.
