Fire Departments From All Over Respond To Salvage Yard Fire

GRANITE CITY – A large fire broke out Sunday evening at 111 Salvage in unincorporated Madison County near Granite City.

A large smoke column could be seen from miles away. Several fire departments responded to the scene. Due to no hydrants, they had to shuttle water to the scene.

Some of the fire departments on the scene are Long Lake, Mitchell, Madison, State Park, Fairmont City, Troy, Marine, Millstadt, New Baden, Godfrey, Smithton, Holliday Shores, Valmeyer, Villa Hills, Mascoutah, St Libory, and Marissa.

State Route 111 is closed from Interstate 55 to Sand Prairie Road due to the fire. Several Police Departments are on the scene helping with traffic control. It is unknown at this time what caused the fire.

They are a Self Service Auto & Truck Salvage Yard located in Granite City, Illinois with over 10 acres.
