Several Area Firefighters Battle Structure Fire Early Sunday Morning

EAST ALTON – The East Alton Fire Department responded to the 300 block of South Pence in East Alton for a structure fire early Sunday morning.

When firefighters arrived on the scene they encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the house. A box alarm was requested. Wood River, Roxana, Alton, and Rosewood Heights responded to the scene along with the Madison County Emergency Management Rehab unit.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly before the fire spread to other homes. The person who lived in the house was able to escape without any injuries along with the dog.

It is unknown at this time how the fire started.
