David G. Knollman, 92, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 6:29 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born July 17, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Maurice Martin and Emma Agnes (Schutte) Knollman.
David married his loving wife, Patricia A. (McGuire) Knollman on February 3, 1967, in St. Louis, Missouri and she survives.
David served as the President of the First Granite City Savings and Loan and retired after 60 years of dedicated service. He was an avid golfer throughout the years, had numerous hole -in-ones and was a longtime member of the U.S. Golf Association. The United States Army veteran was also a member of the Granite City Elks Lodge and had served as President of the Granite City Chamber of Commerce. David enjoyed telling a good joke, loved a day playing golf with his buddies and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Amy and Cory Galakatos of Fountain Hills, Arizona and Wendy Knollman of Granite City; a granddaughter, Sinclair Galakatos of Fountain Hills, Arizona; a sister, Lois Ballance of Chesterfield, Missouri; a niece, Robin George of St. Louis, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Oswald and husband, Bennett of St. Louis, Missouri and Barbara McGuire Murillo and husband, Al of Glen Carbon; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Scott Ballance and a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen “Mert” Bowman.
In celebration of his life, a memorial mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Avenue in Granite City at 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025, with Father Steve Thompson as celebrant.
