Stillwater Senior Living Female Athlete Of Month: Kailyn Lowe Was Another Important Part Of Granite City Girls Volleyball Team In 2025

Kailyn Lowe.GRANITE CITY – Kailyn Lowe, a senior outside hitter for the Granite City High girls volleyball team, had a good season for herself, even if the Warriors’ final record doesn’t reflect how hard the team worked in the 2025 campaign.

The Warriors wound up with a 5-19-1 record, but it doesn’t truly reflect how resilient the team was, or how hard the players worked to improve and get better. Lowe herself had a good season, having 77 kills, serving up 17 points with seven aces, coming up with three blocks, and 52 digs during the season, which ended on Oct. 28 with a 25-14, 25-3 loss to Edwardsville in the IHSA Class 4A regional at Granite City Memorial Gym.

In a post-match interview that followed the loss to the Tigers, Lowe reflected on how things went during the season, and found much to be proud of and happy with for the season.

“I wish the second set could have gone better,” Lowe said, referring to a set where Edwardsville ran off the set’s first 17 points, and totally dominated the set, “but we put in so much work over the entire season. I wish that it had been different, but I’m proud of where our team ended up overall.”

Granite head coach Grace Hurst felt the record didn’t reflect the efforts of the Warrior players this season, and Lowe agreed with her coach’s assessment of the season.

“Yes,” Lowe said “We really didn’t come out and talked, but there were so many teams that we’ve never competed with before, that we really showed up and showed what we could do We didn’t come out on top, but very proud of how we worked, and how we managed to score as much as we did.”

Lowe will look back on the team’s entire body of work this season and find much to be proud of and happy with for the Warriors, especially with her teammates.

“I’ll remember it as a great season,” Lowe said, “with a great team, and we all just have so much love for each other. We worked so well together, it’s sad that it ended up the way that it did, but we truly have so much love for each other, on and off the court. I’m sure I’ll remember it very fondly.”

She also feels optimistic about the future of her team and the sport in Granite.

“Yes,” Lowe said. “I know the upcoming seniors are going to do a great job with this team, and I’m so excited to see what they can do with this team next year.”

Lowe does feel some good and positive things happening for the Warriors down the road.

“Yes, I am,” Lowe said. “I’m just so, so proud of our team, and the dynamic, the way we worked so hard, I’m just so proud of everybody.”
