ROXANA – Jaylen Hall led the way for Granite City with 21 points, while Evan Brewer scored 16 points, as the Warriors defeated University City, Mo., 64-45 in the Midwest Members Credit Union Roxana Hoopsgiving Classic Tuesday afternoon at Larry Milazzo Memorial Gym.
The Warriors led from start to finish in winning their season opener over the Lions to start the group stage of the tournament.
Granite is coming off a 9-20 campaign in 2024-25, and looks to be one of the most improved teams in the area this season. The roster has a good amount of junior and senior veterans, along with two sophomores and two freshmen, and will be much improved.
The Lions are now 1-1, while the Warriors start off their season 1-0, and next play Marquette Catholic on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 26, 2025, and will complete tournament play on Saturday. Granite has its home opener on Dec. 2 against O’Fallon, then hosts Metro-East Lutheran on Dec. 4, both games starting at 7:30 p.m., then plays Union, Mo. in the Norm Stewart Shootout at Mizzou Arena in Columbia on Dec. 5 at 2 p.m.
