Christopher T. Weiser, 43, of Granite City, was charged on Dec. 1, 2025 with a Class 1 felony count of residential burglary. Weiser allegedly entered a residence in the 1900 block of Joy Ave. in Granite City on Oct. 23, 2025 without authority and with the intent to commit a theft.

A petition to deny Weiser’s pretrial release from custody was filed by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office, stating that during the alleged burglary, Weiser also stole a safe containing a firearm from the residence.

“Video showed a white male suspect walking out with a safe, which victim reported contained a firearm,” the petition states. “Officers contacted defendant on another theft call and recognized him from the video.”

The petition notes Weiser “eventually admitted to breaking into the residence and taking the safe.” Upon seizing the safe from Weiser’s residence, officers reportedly found the gun still located inside the safe.

The Granite City Police Department presented the case against Weiser, who was ordered remanded to jail for his initial appearance in court.

Another Granite City man, 36-year-old Anthony J. Chavez, was charged on Dec. 4, 2025, with a Class 1 felony one count of burglary.

Chavez allegedly knowingly entered property of Shekinah Glory Church in Granite City without authority and with the intent to commit a theft on Oct. 24, 2025.

Chavez was granted pretrial release from custody in this case, which was also presented by the Granite City Police Department.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
