GRANITE CITY – A man from Granite City has been charged with various financial crimes stemming from an alleged fraudulent scooter purchase using an elderly victim’s personal information.
Jeffrey F. Pointer Jr., 38, of Granite City, was charged on Aug. 11, 2026, with one count each of continuing a financial crimes enterprise (a Class 1 felony), aggravated identity theft, identity theft (both Class 2 felonies), financial institution fraud, and misappropriation of financial institution property (both Class 3 felonies).
On March 5, 2026, Pointer allegedly committed a series of financial crimes within 18 months, thereby continuing a financial crimes enterprise.
Pointer is accused of knowingly using the personal identifying information of another individual who was over 60 years of age to obtain $2,920 in credit to purchase a scooter from Great Sports Inc.
By reportedly using the victim’s personal information through the use of a computer, Pointer is also accused of attempting to defraud a financial institution by falsely representing himself as the victim on an application for credit, then obtaining unauthorized control over $2,920 in credit from the institution.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office presented the case against Pointer, who was ordered released from custody pending trial.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
