Patricia Dean Mathis, age 74, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on April 20, 1951, in Granite City, a beloved daughter of the late Robert D. Jones Sr. and Norma Jean (Greenwell) Harris.
Patricia was the very definition of kindness. A devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, she had a gift for making people feel welcome. She truly never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand, a listening ear, or a warm smile.
For many years, Patricia worked diligently at Olin Brass in Alton, Illinois, where she built lasting friendships and earned the respect of her coworkers. Retirement didn’t slow her down for long, wanting to stay active and connected, she returned to work part-time at Walmart in Granite City as a door greeter. It was a role that suited her perfectly. Her friendly nature and genuine warmth made everyone feel welcome and she absolutely loved that job.
Patricia found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing bingo, and watching her favorite sitcoms—Friends and The Golden Girls—so often she knew every line by heart. Above all else, her greatest happiness came from spending time with her family, whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally. Her laughter, wisdom, and steady presence were a constant source of comfort and strength.
In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her beloved son, Charles Price, and her stepfather, Harold Harris.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Norma (Linda Mika) Wallen of Granite City; her cherished siblings, Valerie Toth, Vickie (James) Sago, Linda Fleming, Barb (James) Young, Robert Jones Jr., Connie (Tom) Campbell, Chris (James) Dasch, Tim (Tina) Jones, Tina Beavin, and Scott (Kim) Harris. She was a proud grandmother to Alyssa (Tyler) Hale, James (Liz Bowman) Wallen, Blaike (Christine) Wallen, Cheyenne (Isaih) Warrick, Nissa (Brian) Latham and Harley Price and a devoted great-grandmother to Liam, Adalynn, Loki, Mary Jane, Vinny, Kaidyn, Brayleigh, Penelope and Elena. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who were blessed to know her.
Patricia’s love, generosity, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In celebration of her life, a memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Irwin Chapel in Granite City, Illinois.
Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.irwinchapel.com.
