ALTON – The Alton Lady Redbirds looked like they were headed for a blowout win Tuesday night, but instead had to survive overtime to edge the O’Fallon Lady Panthers 66-58.
Alton came out strong in the opening minutes, pushing the tempo and jumping out early, but O’Fallon battled back and took an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Redbirds responded in the second quarter and carried a slim 25-20 advantage into halftime.
O’Fallon regained control in the third quarter, outscoring Alton to take a 40-36 lead heading into the fourth. The final quarter was back-and-forth throughout, with neither team able to pull away. The game was tied in the closing seconds, and Alton missed a potential game-winner, forcing overtime.
In the extra period, Alton took control and outscored O’Fallon 13-5 to secure the win.
Kaylea Lacey led Alton with 23 points, while Ja’Kayla Steen added 11.
O’Fallon was led by Josie Christopher with 25 points and Quinn Zerjal with 10.
