George Chalupnik

George Albert Chalupnik, 88, of Shiloh, IL, born November 4, 1937, in Dickinson, ND, to Anton and Rosalia Chalupnik (nee Karsky), passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at his home.

George married the love of his life, Frances Andree Lanehart, on September 23,1961, in Natchez, MS. Shortly thereafter, George was stationed at an Air Force base in Germany. After returning to the States, George finished college and worked for the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for almost his entire career. George and Andree enjoyed 62 years of marriage together before Andree’s passing, but now they are together again.

George loved to tinker in his workshop and to “fix” things, even if they weren’t broken. He loved watching James Bond movies, his western channel and playing card games on his computer. Another great joy for George was spending time with his family, children, grandchildren, and goddaughter.

George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Andree Chalupnik (nee Lanehart); parents, Anton and Rosalia Chalupnik; six sisters Henrietta (Peyton) Johanson, Martha (Joe) Blake, Lillian (Herman) Koch, Dorothy (Richard) Fischer, Gladys (David) Steen, Elise Chalupnik in infancy; four brothers Anthony Chalupnik, Raymond (Betty) Chalupnik, Donald Chalupnik, Ludwig Chalupnik in infancy; one son, Michael Chalupnik; and one daughter, Sandee Chalupnik.

George is survived by his daughter, Angela (John) Kalous; one brother, Larry (Dagmar) Chalupnik; two sisters, Rosie Medbery, Mary Jane (Dick) Tschakert; two grandchildren, Brooke Kalous and Andrew Kalous; goddaughter, Brittny Flores (Stephen Sammario); and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will take place on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., at Schildknecht Funeral Home, 301 S Lincoln, O’Fallon, IL, 62269.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., at Schildknecht Funeral Home, with Fr. Nick Junker officiating. A reception will follow services at the home of Angela and John Kalous.

Interment will follow in the coming months at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery, Natchez, MS.
