Fairview Heights Police said the letters request payment for “application reviews, zoning and compliance assessments, legal fees, and administrative fees,” and instruct recipients that all correspondence be conducted strictly via email.

“These letters are fake and were not sent by the City of Fairview Heights,” the police department said.

Police advised anyone who receives one of the messages to “Delete it and do not respond.”
