Explosion And Fire Cause Three Tragic Deaths In Troy Residence

TROY – Madison County Sheriff’s deputies and the Troy Fire Department responded late Sunday to a house fire in Troy where three people were found dead, and another person was hospitalized with significant burn injuries, authorities said.

Madison County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters were called at 11:14 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 2026, to the 8000 block of W. Kirsch Road in Troy, Ill., for a structure fire with people reported trapped inside the residence, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said they also received information that an explosion occurred.

As first responders arrived, they located one person with significant burn injuries who was later transported to a St. Louis-area hospital for medical treatment, the sheriff’s office said. A few residents were able to escape the house without injuries.

Firefighters later located three people inside the structure who were deceased, the sheriff’s office said.

Madison County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the incident along with the Madison County Coroner’s Office, the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, according to the sheriff’s office. Several other area fire departments also responded to assist.

“We do not believe there is a threat to the community at this time,” the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation remains active, and additional information will be released later, the sheriff’s office said.
