FRIDAY, APRIL 17 PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS ROUNDUP
BASEBALL
CARLINVILLE 6, PANA 2: Carlinville pushed across four runs in the first, and single runs in the second and fifth to take the South Central Conference win over Pana at Loveless Park.
Noah Convery led the Cavaliers with two hits and an RBI, and also struck out seven while on the mound.
Carlinville is now 4-7, while the Panthers go to 8-7.
LITCHFIELD 5, PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 4: After Litchfield took a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth with three runs, Southwestern fought back to tie the game in the home half, scoring twice. The Purple Panthers pushed across what proved to be the winning run in the sixth to take the win at Southwestern’s park.
John Kunz led the Piasa Birds with two hits and two RBIs, while he and Ben Biciocchi both struck out two while on the mound.
Litchfield is now 10-7, while Southwestern slips to 4-12.
PADUCAH, KY. MCCRACKEN COUNTY 10, TRIAD 8: In their first game of a cluster at McCracken County, Triad came back from a 7-0 deficit to score four times in both the sixth and seventh, but the rally fell short in their loss to the host Mustangs.
Brody Hasquin had a big day at the plate for the Knights, with two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs, while both Grayson Yank and Pearce Goodfield fanned one each on the mound.
McCracken County is now 7-4.
TRIAD 4, BENTON, KY. MARSHALL COUNTY 3: In Triad’s second game of the evening, the Knights scored twice in the third, and once each in the fourth and fifth, with the fifth inning run proving to be the difference in the win over Marshall County.
Hasquin came up big again for Triad, with two hits and two RBIs, while Kody Anderson struck out five on the mound.
The Knights are now 13-3, while the Marshals go to 11-4.
FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 11, ALTON 5: At Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Alton scored four in the first and one in the second to go ahead, but McGivney came back to tie the game in the bottom of the second with five runs, then scored five more in the third, and once in the fifth to take the win.
Ty Etcheson led the Griffins with three hits and four RBIs, while Aiden Willis struck out three on the mound. Nathanial Rich led the Redbirds with a hit and three RBiIs while Alex Pilger had the other hit, and Pilger, Jack Puent, Logan Hickman, and Blake Rensing all struck out one each on the mound.
McGivney is now 14-4, while Alton goes to 8-9.
In other games played on Friday, Highland and Marion split a doubleheader, Marion edging Highland 3-2 in the first game, with the Bulldogs getting the split in the second game 13-3 over the Wildcats, Columbia got past Belleville East 4-0, Breese Mater Dei Catholic edged Centralia 4-2, Breese Central won over New Athens 9-3, Edwardsville outlasted O’Fallon 15-10, and Mascoutah won over Belleville Althoff Catholic 6-1. Another game, Jersey at Hardin Calhoun, was postponed by rain. A make-up date has yet to be announced.
GIRLS SOCCER
MARQUETTE CATHOLIC 6, ROXANA 1: Maddie Waters had a brace (two goals), while Alex Stephan, Izzi Hough, Rylie Jacobs, and Katherine Fitzgerald all scored in Marquette’s win over Roxana at Gordon Moore Park.
Gianna Stassi had the only goal for the Shells, while Jessica Eales had five saves in goal for the Explorers, while Sidney Ufert made 27 saves for Roxana.
Marquette is now 5-4-2, while the Shells go to 4-7-0.
JERSEY 1, ALTON 0: Holly Lamer’s second half strike was the goal that separated the two side as Jersey took the three points over visiting Alton.
Ella Roberts had 11 saves in goal for the Panthers, while Lydia Cowan made two saves for the Redbirds.
Jersey is now 3-9-0, while Alton is now 2-10-0.
In the result of two other games on Friday showed Breese Mater Dei Catholic winning over Trenton Wesclin 5-1, and Belleville Althoff Catholic winning over Civic Memorial 4-0, while the game between Carlinville and Highland was postponed due to rain and lightning. A make-up date has not yet been announced.
SOFTBALL
ROXANA 13, COLLINSVILLE 3: Roxana scored three in the first and seventh, Once in the second, twice in the fifth, and four times in the sixth In taking the road win at the Collinsville Sports Complex.
Both Ava Cherry and Josie Brannon had three hits and an RBI each for the Shells, while Maddie John had two hits and four RBIs, and Cherry also hit a home run. Kassidy Schuyler went all the way in the circle, fanning two. Aubrey Bordoni had three hits and an RBI for the Kahoks, and also struck out four in the circle.
Roxana is now 12-4, while Collinsville is now 3-14.
COLUMBIA 21, GRANITE CITY 6: Columbia scored five runs in the first 10 in the second, and three each in the third and fourth to take the win over Granite City at the Nelson Hagnauer Sports Complex.
Isabella Briagas had two hits and three RBIs for the Warriors, while Milyn Roehr had two hits and drove in two runs. Chloe Randolph went all the way inside the circle, striking out five
The Eagles are now 10-5, while Granite is now 1-14.
In other results on Friday, Waterloo won over Red Bud 13-6, Mascoutah shut out Breese Central 6-0, Edwardsville won at Triad 7-0, and Freeburg stopped Waterloo Gibault Catholic 16-5.

LACROSSE
In the only match involving a local team on Thursday, Cor Jesu Academy Catholic of Affton, Mo., in south St. Louis County, defeated O’Fallon 19-10.
SOCCER
TRIAD 7, MASCOUTAH 0: London Looby had a ha trick, while Sophia Bohnek, Peyton Cissel, Izzy Hancock, and Lilly Zobrist all scored as Triad went on the road and took all three points agains Mascoutah at Alumni FIeld.
Lauren Koberna had only one save in goal as she and Payton Hartmann shared the clean sheet for the Knights, who are now 5-3-2, while the Indians go to 3-9-0.
COLUMBIA 3, GRANITE CITY 2: Mya McKechan and Elizabeth Weaver scored for Granite City as Columbia took away the three points in their win at Gene Baker Field.
Katie Gartner had no saves in goal for the Warriors, who are now 5-6-1. while the Eagles go to 6-5-1.
COLLINSVILLE 4, ALTON 1: Karley Call, Peyton Duhadway, Elyana Carne, nd Ryelan Judiscak all scored for Collinsville in their Southwestern Conference win over Alton at Public School Stadium.
Addison Strowmatt had the lone goal for the Redbirds, while Paige Bohnenstiehl had two saves in goal while Karly VanDyke had a single save.
The Kahoks are now 8-3-0, while Alton goes to 2-7-0.
EDWARDSVILE 1, BELLEVILLE WEST 0 (AFTER EXTRA TIME): Anna Maxim scored extra time to give Edwardsville the win over West at Tiger Stadium.
Genny Burroughs had three saves in goal to record the clean sheet for the Tigers, while Brooke Stellhorn had five saves for the Maroons.
Edwardsville is now 5-2-1, while West goes to 3-8-0.
In the other Southwestern Conference match of the day, OFallon won over Belleville East 4-1.
SOFTBALL
CARLINVILLE 11, VIRDEN NORTH MAC 0: Carlinville scored 10 runs in the opening inning, then once more in the third to take the South Central Conference win over North Mac at Loveless Park.
Payton Harding had two hits and three RBIs for the Cavaliers, while Hallie Gibson struck out five in the circle.
Carlinville is now 6-8, while the Panthers go to 0-9.
BELLEVILLE WEST 4, COLLINSVILLE 3 (8 INNINGS): After trailing 2-1, Collinsville scored once in the sixth to tie he game and force extra innings, then scored again in the top of the eight to take the lead, but West scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take the win.
Aubrey Bordoni had two hits and an RBI for the Kahoks, with Payton Smith going all the way in the circle, striking out two.
The Maroons are now 8-8, while Collinsville goes to 3-12.
ALTON 21, GRANITE CITY 0: Alton scored three runs in the first, four in the second, and 14 in the third to take the win over Granite City at Redbirds Park.
Riley Carnahan, Alexis Ruiz, Emily Sagehage, and Peyton Shipley all had
hits s for the Warriors, while Isabelle Briagas struck out two in he circle.
The Redbirds are now 3-14, while Granite goes to 1-13.
SALEM 4, EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 0: Salem scored once in the second and three times in the fourth to win over visiting EAWR.
Liberty Fry had the only hit of the game for the Oilers, while Ellie Beechum struck out 12 in the circle.
The Wildcats are now 4-12, while EAWR is now 5-9.
COLUMBIA 7, ROXANA 2: Roxana took an early 2-0 lead after the opening inning, but Columbia scored twice in the fifth to tie the game thrre run in the sixth to go ahead, then two more in the sixth for insurance in taking the win at Roxana City Park.
Ava Cherry led the Shells’ hitters with a hit and two RBIs, while Kassidy Schuyler went all the way in the circle, striking out one.
The Eagles are now 9-5, while Roxana is now 11-4.
In other games played on Thursday, Edwardsville won over O’Fallon 4-0, Belleville East defeated East St. Louis 19-1, Greenfield Northwestern took a 20-5 win over Griggsville-Perry, Waterloo Gibault Catholic defeated Belleville Althoff Catholic 15-0, Waterloo won over Mascoutah 9-1, Chester won over Trenton Wesclin 8-4, Steeleville outlasted Dupo 11-8, Okawville won over Red Bud 4-1, and Freeburg won over Breese Central 13-1.
