Jamel C. Jimmerson, 38, listed as homeless, was charged on April 24, 2026 with a Class 2 felony count of unlawful failure to register as a sex offender.

On April 23, 2026, Jimmerson allegedly failed to report in person on a weekly basis to the Granite City Police Chief while lacking a fixed address in Granite City, as legally required under the Sex Offender Registration Act.

Charging documents note Jimmerson had previously been convicted of failing to register as a sex offender in a St. Clair County case from 2018.

The Illinois State Police Offender Registry lists Jimmerson as a “sexual predator” who was previously convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in St. Clair County. At the time of the offense, the registry states Jimmerson was 18 and the victim was 12.

Jimmerson’s current registration status remains “non-compliant” at the time of this writing, having last registered on Dec. 8, 2025. His latest case of registration failure was presented by the Granite City Police Department, and he was ordered released from custody pending trial.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
