GRANITE CITY – A Granite City resident accused of working with two juveniles to rob a minor victim of their shoes and cell phone faces felony charges in Madison County.
Athan M. McCracken, 18, of Granite City, was charged on May 4, 2026 with one count each of robbery (a Class 2 felony) and Mob Action (a Class 4 felony).
On March 19, 2026, McCracken and two juvenile suspects, ages 17 and 16, allegedly acted together and without legal authority in punching and kicking a 16-year-old victim. In addition to causing the victim bodily injury, McCracken is accused of taking the victim’s cell phone, Air Jordan 1 shoes, and ski mask.
According to the state’s petition to deny McCracken’s pretrial release from custody, the victim was later “determined to have suffered a broken nose and concussion as a result of the battery.”
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office presented the case against McCracken, who was ordered remanded to jail for his initial court appearance in this case.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
