The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Glen-Ed Pantry, 125 5th Ave., Edwardsville, IL 62025. Representatives and leadership of the pantry are expected to attend, including Board President Libby Levin, past president Pam Harrison, and Executive Director Jane Ahasay, along with Edwardsville Mayor Art Risavy and Matt Pfund of Pfund Construction. The pantry said other community members, including capital campaign supporters and donors, elected officials, volunteers, and pantry supporters, are also expected.

The groundbreaking marks a milestone in the organization’s capital campaign to expand services and address increasing needs among local families.

The pantry said the new facility is planned to provide expanded food storage capacity, improved accessibility, enhanced client services, and a permanent home to support its long-term mission to serve more families across Edwardsville and Glen-Carbon.

The organization cited increased financial strain for many families due to rising costs and changes to SNAP benefits and other assistance programs, as well as growing demand seen by food pantries across the region.

Photo and video opportunities are expected to include a ceremonial shovel event, community leaders and supporters gathered onsite, interviews with pantry leadership, and renderings or site visuals of the future facility.

Glen-Ed Pantry is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving individuals and families in the Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7. More information is available at glenedpantry.org or by calling (618) 656-7506.
