CHARLESTON – Gillespie’s Chaz Oberkfell led area qualifiers in the IHSA 1A State Boys Track and Field on Thursday, advancing in the 800 meters, 1,600 meters and he is listed in the finals of the 3,200-meter run.
Oberkfell qualified in eighth place in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.25 on Thursday.
He also advanced in the 1,600 meters (4:23.69) in first place. Jack Shank of Metro East Lutheran advanced in fourth position in the 1,600 (4:26.41).
Father McGivney’s Liam Schmidt was 15th in the prelims with a time of 2:00.53 and did not advance to the finals.
Cade King of Maryville Christian finished in 11th in the prelims of the 300 low hurdles with a time of 40.99 on Thursday and was the area’s top 1A placer in that event.
Father McGivney Catholic advanced in sixth place in the 4 x 400 relay with a time of 3:27.0. Owen Weissert, Will Rakers, Gus Range and Liam Schmidt were part of the crew.
McGivney’s 4 x 800 relay of Gus Range, Connor Schmidt, Eric Rybak and Will Rakers recorded a time of 8:17.98 for 11th place.
Carlinville’s 4 x 800 relay of Nolan Meyer, Henry Truax, Cameron Cooper and Vandon Sproull finished with a time of 8:17.96.
Drake Smith of Greenfield advanced to the finals in fourth position (1.88 meters or 6-foot-2) in the high jump.
Carlinville’s Austin Homer advanced in fifth place in the pole vault, with a jump of 3.95 meters of 12-11.5).
Gillespie’s Dane Diesselhorst was 13th in the pole vault prelims (3.80 meters), Faizon Laplante was 18th of Carlinville (3.65 meters) and Caleb Payne of Father McGivney was in 18th place with a jump of 3.65 meters.
