Public Input Sought for U.S. 40 Corridor Improvements

TROY, IL. – The Illinois Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on June 29, 2026, in Troy, IL., to gather input on proposed improvements to U.S. 40 in Madison County, as the agency studies ways to address traffic safety and mobility along the corridor from Formosa Road to Illinois 162.

The meeting is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 29, at CA Henning School, 520 U.S. 40, Troy.

IDOT, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, has initiated the preliminary engineering and environmental study of U.S. 40. The Phase 1 study covers a section of the highway in the city of Troy and unincorporated Madison County and will examine options for improvements in the study area.

According to IDOT, the purpose of the meeting is to present alternatives and obtain public input.

The meeting will be conducted in an open-house format, with no formal presentation. Handouts and display boards will be available for public review, including information on engineering, land acquisition and environmental processes. Representatives from IDOT and the project consultant, Volkert, will be available to discuss the project and answer questions.

Meeting materials also will be available on the project website for review and comment.

The public may submit comments during project development using a comment form provided at the meeting and on the project website. IDOT said all comments received by July 17 will be included in the official public meeting record.
