EDWARDSVILLE — Glen-Ed Pantry has received a $500,000 gift from Gordon and Holly Broom to support the nonprofit’s capital campaign to build a new facility, a project the organization says will expand its ability to serve individuals and families experiencing food insecurity throughout the region.
The donation was announced as Glen-Ed Pantry works to raise $3 million by the end of 2026 for the new building. The pantry broke ground on the facility in May 2026 and expects construction to be completed in late spring or early summer of 2027.
The pantry said the Brooms’ contribution is intended to support its mission and strengthen its future as demand for services continues to grow.
“Holly and I welcome the opportunity to contribute to the mission of the Glen-Ed Pantry,” Gordon Broom said. “We believe it is the obligation of those who are able to help those who are in need. Helping those in need is the mission of the Pantry, and we are proud to support that work.”
According to the organization, the capital campaign will fund construction of a facility designed to meet growing community needs, increase food storage and distribution capacity, and provide a more welcoming and efficient space for clients, volunteers and staff.
“We are deeply grateful to Gordon and Holly for their extraordinary generosity and commitment to our community,” said Jane Ahasay, executive director of Glen-Ed Pantry. “Their gift will have a lasting impact on the thousands of individuals and families who rely on our services each year. Because of supporters like the Brooms, we have surpassed the halfway point of our $3 million campaign goal and are building strong momentum toward completing our fundraising efforts by the end of the year.”
Glen-Ed Pantry said demand for its services continues to grow as many households face rising food costs and financial pressures. The organization said the new facility will help it meet those needs for decades to come while expanding its capacity to serve the community with dignity and compassion.
