ST. LOUIS COUNTY – Two men were killed and two other people were injured after a robbery led to a fight and gunfire late Sunday, July 5, 2026, in the 4300 block of North Hanley Road in St. Louis County, police said.
Officers from the St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Transit Police responded at 11:55 p.m. Sunday, July 5, to a call for a shooting and found three adult males with apparent gunshot injuries, according to a Monday, July 6, 2026, update from the St. Louis County Police Department. One victim died at the scene, and a second was taken to a hospital for life-saving treatment but later died. A third victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and a fourth victim took himself to a hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.
Police said further investigation found that a male and a female were walking on MetroLink property when four male suspects approached them, displayed a firearm and demanded the victims’ bag. After the victims turned over their belongings, the suspects fled, police said.
Other males who witnessed the robbery ran and helped the victims chase the suspects, according to police. The two groups then got into a fight, and the suspects fired shots.
Police said one of the men who died was the original male robbery victim and the second was a member of the group that tried to help. The identities of the dead have not been released pending family notification.
One injured victim was treated and released from a hospital, while another remained hospitalized, police said.
“This incident is a reminder that robberies can happen quickly and unexpectedly. Your safety is always more important than your belongings. If you are the victim of or witness to a robbery, get to a safe place and call 911. Do not intervene unless it is necessary to protect yourself or someone else from immediate harm,” Lt. Erich Von Almen, commander of the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons, said in a statement.
No suspects were in custody as of the department’s previous release, and police said the investigation remains active.
