EAST ST. LOUIS – Miranda May is grieving the loss of her mother, grandmother, and brother after a targeted mass shooting this past weekend left five people dead and at least two others wounded, according to Illinois State Police and the East St. Louis Police Department.
Authorities said the victims were shot at multiple locations in the East St. Louis area. Those who died in the shooting were identified as Cherie L. May, 49; Devin D. May, 24; Patricia A. May, 74; Quentin L. Thompson, 21; and Shania W. Thompson, 25. All were from East St. Louis, officials said.
A GoFundMe fundraising page created for Miranda May says she is struggling to cope with the deaths of Cherie May, Patricia May and Devin May and is trying to navigate the grief and aftermath of the killings. She said that she feels “broken and alone,” “not knowing where to turn” and “feeling so lost” after the sudden loss of her family members.
The fundraising effort says Devin May is survived by “a beautiful baby girl, just one year old, and her mother, Chelsey Gatlin.” It says any funds raised will help pay funeral expenses for Cherie, Patricia and Devin, provide immediate support for Devin’s daughter and establish a trust fund for her future. Miranda says the family will need counseling and emotional support in the aftermath of the tragic shootings.
The fundraiser asks for support for Miranda May and her family as they face what is described as an unimaginable loss.
“Your support means the world during this difficult time, and any contribution will make a real difference in their lives,” she said. “Thank you for standing with our family and loved ones when we need it most.
