
John Marvin Ackermann, 88, of Belleville, IL, born July 20, 1938, in East St. Louis, IL, died Monday, July 27, 2026, at Dammert Center, Belleville, IL.
John graduated from Collinsville Highschool in 1956. After graduating, he served in the United States Navy for three years. Following his service, he received his master’s degree at Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville. He then spent many years teaching math and physics at both Cahokia and Mascoutah high school, before pursuing electrical engineering and finally retiring from Bussmann Fuse Company. He was an avid wood worker and belonged to the St. Louis Wood Workers Guild. John was also an exceptional handy man and loved to fix anything that needed to be fixed. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandkids and attending their numerous events.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eloise, nee Bergdoll, Ackermann.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Donna, nee Tewell, Ackermann; two sons, Michael John Ackermann and Steven Tewell (Cristin) Ackermann; four grandchildren, Isabella Ackermann, Eli Ackermann, Ethan Ackermann, and Ruby Ackermann; a sister, Carol (Pat) Darling; a nephew, Scott Darling; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Tewell.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.
Burial will be held at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
