Ronald Edward Lanter, Sr., 89, of Belleville, IL, born November 27, 1936, in Belleville, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Keystone Place at Richland Creek, surrounded by his loved ones.
Ron worked as a dedicated carpenter and was a proud member of Carpenters’ Union Local 1997. He also shared his knowledge and passion for the trade as an instructor at the Carpenter Apprentice School. A hardworking man and true jack of all trades, Ron had an incredible ability to fix just about anything. In his free time, Ron enjoyed golfing, fishing, and cheering on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Belleville, Illinois.
The love of Ron’s life was his devoted wife, who faithfully stood by his side through every chapter of life. Together they shared a bond built on love, trust, and unwavering commitment. Her constant support and companionship were among his life’s greatest blessings, and their enduring love was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Above all else, Ron cherished his family. His greatest joy in life was being a grandpa, and he treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His love, guidance and unwavering devotion to his family will be remembered always.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Gladys, nee Bott, Lanter; and his mother-in-law, Dora Marsh.
Surviving are his loving wife of 69 years, Patricia Lanter, nee Marsh, whom he married on November 10, 1956; six children, Jim (Allison) Lanter, Mike (Donna) Lanter, Ron Lanter, Jr., Anne (Tony) Quinn, Linda (Marc) Vallas, and Tom (Jennifer) Lanter; 14 grandchildren, Amanda (Charlie) Tindall, Jonathan Lanter, Ryan (Alison) Lanter, Neil Lanter, Anastasia Lanter, Meaghan Brewer, Anthony (Aaren) Quinn, Trisha (Devan) Cobb, Kristina (Tim) DePascale, Tanya (Jimi) Hancock, Adam (Catherine) McDonald, Tyler Vallas, Jessica (Hayden) Harder, and Benjamin Lanter; 17 great-grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Betty Lanter and a sister-in-law, Mary Sherlock; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral: A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Bishop Godfrey Mullen, OSB, officiating.
