EDWARDSVILLE – The top two singles seeds, Johannus Monday of Great Britain and Karim Bennani of Morocco, advanced to the quarterfinals on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the $30,000 Edwardsville Futures Tennis Tournament, presented by The EGHM Foundation, while the third and fourth seeds in singles were eliminated during fifth-day play at the Edwardsville Tennis Center in Edwardsville.
Monday and Bennani moved on in second-round singles matches, while Americans Samir Banderjee and Gavin Young, the third and fourth seeds, lost. In doubles, three of the top four seeded teams advanced to the semifinals.
Play stretched through Thursday morning, afternoon and evening under sunny skies, with pleasant temperatures, low humidity and a breeze as the tournament moved closer to this weekend’s singles and doubles finals.
In the upper half of the singles draw, Monday defeated Keaton Hance of the United States 6-1, 6-4. Norway’s Andreja Petrovic beat Manuel Lazaro-Juncadella of Spain 6-1, 6-0. Maxwell Exsted of the United States eliminated Banderjee 6-4, 2-2 when Banderjee retired. Fifth-seeded Ozan Baris of the United States outlasted Oliver Bonding of Great Britain 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.
In the lower half of the bracket, seventh-seeded Bruno Kuzahawa of the United States defeated fellow American Noah Zamora 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. American Jack Amthrop ousted Young 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. Vignesh Gogineni of the United States defeated American Illja Palavestra 6-4, 6-1. Bennani beat Bryce Nakashima of the United States 6-3, 6-4.
In the doubles quarterfinals, top seeds Ethan Cook of Australia and Leo Vithoontien of Japan advanced with a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) win over Tyler Bowers of the United States and Oliver Okonkwo of Great Britain. Fourth-seeded Gogineni and Young were eliminated by Amthrop and Zamora 5-7, 7-5, 10-8. Third-seeded Exsted and Cooper Woestendick defeated Marko Miladinovic of Serbia and Petrovic 6-2, 6-0. Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin of the United States beat second-seeded Thomas Fancutt of Australia and Billy Suarez of the United States 6-1, 6-3.
Friday’s schedule includes Fan Appreciation Day, with Edwardsville Township residents admitted free.
The singles quarterfinals are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday, with Gogineni set to face Bennani, Kuzahawa to play Amthrop, Monday to meet Petrovic, and Exsted to take on Baris.
The doubles semifinals later Friday will pair Cook and Vithoontien against Amthrop and Zamora, and Exsted and Woestendick against Carpico and Filin.
