The girls’ team, however, was prevented from starting its season twice when a tournament set for Indian Springs Golf Course in Fillmore and the Alton Kickoff Scramble tournament, which was scheduled for Rolling Hills Golf Course in Godfrey, were both canceled due to the excessive heat that has gripped the region over the past few days.

In the Tiger Den Invitational, the first round was played on Thursday, with the Tigers finishing fourth after the second round was rained out. West Chicago Wheaton Academy was declared the winner with a team score of 282, Geneva was second with a 300, third place went to Normal University with a 305, and the Tigers placed fourth at 308. An Edwardsville B team came in ninth with a 318.

The Tigers A team was led by Brian Cooper, who shot a 74, while both Luke Maxim and Michael Shaw each shot a 77, and both Henry Willenborg and Drew Capron each fired an 80. Cooper’s score allowed him to finish seventh overall in the individual standings. Landon Meyer of Alton shot a 70 to lead the Redbirds.

The Edwardsville B team was led by a 77 by Bennett Briggs, with Aiden Flavio coming up with a 78, Brett Kirgan fired an 81, and Joel Fields came up with an 82.

The girls’ team was prevented from opening its season on Thursday when the tournament at Indian Springs was scrubbed, and the Alton Kickoff Scramble was called off on Saturday, both due to excessive heat. The girls’ team will start its season on Tuesday at the Madison County tournament at The Legacy Golf Club in Granite City, then will compete in the Belleville West Invitational on Friday at The Orchards Golf Club in Belleville.

The boys team will play at the Alton Tee-Off Classic on Tuesday at the Spencer T. Olin Golf Course in Gordon Moore Park in Alton, then will play in the Madison County tournament at Belk Park Golf Club in Wood River on Thursday, and the Quincy Invitational at Westview Golf Course in Quincy on Saturday.
