Janet A. Schloemann, nee Cook, 88, of Swansea, IL, born October 30, 1937, in Belleville, IL, died Tuesday, August 25, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Janet touched the lives of many students as a teacher and counselor for 32 years at Belleville School District 118 until her retirement. Janet and her husband, Roger, had a wonderful life together and enjoyed traveling, boating, and time at their condo in Florida. However, Janet felt that her greatest pleasures were not material things, but the relationships she had with her many friends and family. Janet was proud of her family and the legacy she left behind.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur J. and Erna R., nee Bauer, Cook; a son-in-law Jeffrey Orris; a brother, Thomas Cook; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Schloemann.
Surviving are her loving husband of 68 years, Roger D. Schloemann, whom she married on September 5, 1957; five children, Mark (Colleen) Schloemann and their children, Greta (Michael) Hanley and Max (Kristen) Schloemann; Laurie Orris and her children, Meghan (Josh) Wardell and Alisa (Nick) Costillo; Shari (Bill) Gass and their children, Melissa Gass (Gabe Stone-Jansen) and Caroline (Stefan) Gass-Rittner; Jill (Mark) O’Truk and their children, Katherine O’Truk, Benjamin O’Truk, and Matthew O’Truk; and Jeffrey Schloemann; and a sister-in-law, Sandi Cook, and 11 great grandchildren
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at LaBella of Freeburg and Hospice of Southern Illinois for the wonderful care given to Janet.
