Dennis F. “Jickie” Lindsey, age 79, of Highland passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at his home.
He was born on January 11, 1947, in St. Louis, MO, a son of the late Jewell and Anna (nee Haile) Lindsey.
On June 5, 1971, he married Brenda Mae Gamboa at the Assembly of God Church in Millstadt, IL, and she survives in Highland.
In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by his children, Dennis Daniel (Katherine) Lindsey of Alhambra and David Andrew Lindsey of St. Jacob; grandchildren, Autumn Rae Lindsey, Denny Daniel Lindsey II, McKenna Rae Lindsey and Auna Louise Lindsey, Madeline (Nate) Schacher, Phillip (Arin) Markunas, Anthony (Cara) Markunas, Christina (Kyle) Bosserd, and Cole (Nancy) Markunas,; great grandchildren, Eisley, Colton, Lahnaya, Obadiah, Esme, Anika, Elijah, Falyn, Peter, Stetson and Lane; siblings, Hannah Lee, Kay Outman, Dani (Bill) Bryan, James “Bud” Lindsey, Kathy Lindsey and Joseph (Stacy) Lindsey; sisters-in-law, Paula Lindsey and Karen Gamboa and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Anna (Harry) Townsend and Jewell (Lorraine) Lindsey; parents-in-law, Hipiloto S. and Pauline C. (nee Steele) Gamboa; sisters, Ruby (infancy), Joanne (Roy) Bloom and Carolyn Copeland; brothers, Gary (Kathy) Lindsey, Jewell “Steve” (Tilly) Lindsey, Ralph Lindsey, Francis (Marie) Lindsey, Jean Lindsey and Donnie Lindsey; brothers-in-law, Don Lee, Patrick Lindsey and Joseph Gamboa; and sister-in-law, Diane Croteau.
Dennis was a 1966 graduate of Desloge High School. He started his career at St. Louis Shipyard, where he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers. He then spent the remainder of his career as a skilled heavy equipment operator for the Granite City Steel Mill and was a dedicated member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1899. His entrepreneurial drive later led him to establish his own construction company, proudly named “You Be The Boss.” Outside of work, Dennis lived life to the fullest. He filled his home with music playing the saxophone and spent countless hours refurbishing classic cars, gardening, and riding his motorcycle. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and camping. He enjoyed attending chicken and beer dances, but his greatest joy was his family. In his sons’ younger years, Dennis loved coaching their baseball teams, teaching them life lessons both on and off the field. Dennis was a jokester and loved aggravating people, but more than anything he loved making people laugh. Dennis’s hard work, contagious joy, and love for his family will be forever remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Highland. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Sandy Schober presiding. Interment will be at Marine City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Lung Association and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 1501 9thSt., Highland, IL 62249, which is serving the family.
