COLLINSVILLE – Lazarion Steward went on a spectacular 16-yard touchdown run with 2:42 left in regulation to give Collinsville a hard-fought 14-10 win over Springfield in a Week Two battle Friday night, Aug. 28, 2026, at Kahok Stadium.
Steward’s run climaxed a two-play touchdown drive late to give the Kahoks their first win of the season in a tight defensive battle that saw the game scoreless at halftime.
In the first half, the Kahoks blocked a Senator punt, only to see the Springfield defense stiffen and turn back the Kahoks. Both teams also missed a field goal try, the Senators missing near the end of the first half as the teams went to the locker rooms in a rare scoreless tie 0-0.
The Senators broke through on the opening possession of the second half, only needing three plays to score on a 48-yard run by Bryce Bryant to give Springfield a 7-0 lead. Kai Rineberger later added a 25-yard field goal to push the Senators to a 10-0 lead.
Steward climaxed a third-quarter drive with a 1-yard run up the middle to cut the lead to 10-7 with 2:04 left in the period, then late in the fourth quarter, receiver Elijha Ramer took a reverse 25 yards to set up Steward’s 16-yard touchdown run with 2:42 left to give Collinsville a 14-10 lead.
On the ensuing Senator possession, Ed Horton turned a swing pass into a 70-yard gain to the Collinsville eight that set up a first-and-goal situation, but a pair of costly penalties and a stiffened Collinsville defense denied Springfield, who saw a fourth-down pass intercepted with two seconds left to clinch the win for the Kahoks.
The Senators are now 0-2 for the season, and play host to Jacksonville next Friday, while the Kahoks go to 1-1, and are at Mt. Vernon next Friday, both games kicking off at 7 p.m.
