BETHALTO – Triad’s Caleb Meier finished second in the three-mile race, while Mt. Vernon edged Festus, Mo. for the team title in the boys race of the Civiv Memorial Twilight Invite cross country meet, held Saturday evening at the cross country course of the Bethalto Sports Complex.
The annual meet is considered to be one of the season’s top opening meets in the area, which attracts teams from all over the St. Louis area. The twilight setting makes this one of the most unique events in the area.
The Rams won the team championship with 61 points, with the Tigers coming in second at 62 points. Triad came in third with 88 points, with the host Eagles placing fourth at 90 points, and Highland rounded out the top five with 135 points. Among other area teams who competed, Jersey finished eighth with 173 points, Alton was ninth at 234 points, Father McGivney Catholic was 10th at 246 points, and Breese Central finished 12th with 334 points.
Grant Fink of Festus won the individual title with a time of 15:30.74, while Meier was second at 15:41.30, and William Green of Mt. Vernon was third at 15:43.19. Coming in fourth place was Lucas De Clue of Festus at 15:50.56, in fifth place was Caleb Knobloch of Highland at 15:59.46, sixth place went to Cruz Anders of De Soto, Mo. at 15:50.96, finishing in seventh place was CM’s Boden Duffy at 16:00.72, in eight place was Hudson Bates of the Tigers at 16:11.95, coming in ninth place was Logan Kearbey of the Eagles at 16:12.51, and rounding out the top ten was Joshua Knobloch of the Bulldogs at 16.14.99.
The top runner for the Panthers was Will Green, who was 22nd at 17:08,19, while Eric Rybak was the top finisher for the Griffins, coming in 27th at 17:21.89, and the top runner for the Redbirds was Gustavo Alcazar, who came in 37th with a time of 17:56.20.
