GRANITE CITY — Granite City High School will host 45 teams Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, at Wilson Park for the 53rd annual Robinson/Lang Cross Country Invitational, a meet named in honor of former GCHS North head coaches Pete Robinson and Harry Lang.
The meet, held in Granite City, brings together teams from Illinois and Missouri. Robinson and Lang conducted the inaugural Granite City Cross Country Invitational in the fall of 1974. The event was renamed in 2021 in their honor.
Competition is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. with the varsity girls race, followed by the varsity boys at 8:30 a.m., freshman/sophomore and open boys at 9 a.m., and junior varsity and open girls at 9:40 a.m.
Last year, Edwardsville High School won the girls race with four runners in the top 15. Ali Londrigan of Chatham Glenwood was the individual champion in 17 minutes, 18.90 seconds.
St. Louis University won the boys’ title in 2025, placing four runners in the top 10. Jackson Miller captured the individual title in 14:40.15.
Spectator parking will be available near the start/finish line at Riverbend Head Start, 2901 State St., and at the Wilson Ice Rink parking lot, 2900 Benton St. Wilson Park is located at 2901 State St. in Granite City.
The Coolidge Junior High Cross Country Invitational, originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 4, has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21.
