Sharon Grubbs

Sharon Grubbs, age 72, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO surrounded by her loving husband and children. Sharon was born on July 9, 1951 in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late Blythe and Gertrude (Glenville) McMurray.

On January 25, 1968, Sharon McMurray, married Daniel C. Grubbs, the love of her life at First Baptist Church in Madison, IL. She was a girl scout leader, den mother and a lifetime member of the Granite City PTA and held office in the area council. Sharon had worked at Big Lots in Granite City, IL, where she made many lifelong friends. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and St. Louis Blues Hockey fan. She loved going to home games and watching them play on television. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family as well as her furbabies and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sharon will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a dear friend to many. Sharon will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by a brother in infancy; and her best friend, Debbie Cundiff.

Sharon is survived by her devoted husband, Daniel Grubbs of Granite City, IL; loving children, Melissa (Jared) Inkster of Holladay, TN, Tim (Linda) Grubbs of Lakeville, MN and Michael Grubbs of New Johnsville, TN; dear siblings, James (Theresa) McMurray, Linda McMurray and Patty (Tim) Davis; proud grandmother to Natasha (Ryan) Stroderd, Whitney (Jake) Carnahan, Danielle Tindall, Faith Inkster, TJ Grubbs, Tanner Grubbs, Paige Grubbs, and Austin Grubbs; proud great-grandmother to Bentley and Beckham Stroderd, Riley and Kai Carnahan, Wrenleigh Tindall, and Bryten Marler; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 

In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL, with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor Daniel Wilson officiating.

In honor of Sharon, the family request that you wear your favorite St. Louis Cardinals or St. Louis Blues attire to the visitation and service

Private family interment will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO, at a later date.

Memorial donations may be given to Granite City A.P.A. and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
