Ruth Juanita Hatcher, age 97 of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at her home. She was born on November 15, 1924, in Venice, Illinois to Mary nee Vaughn Ferguson and Roy Lee Ferguson, Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roy Lee Ferguson Jr., and her husband Floyd of 47 years who died in 1990.
Ruth married Floyd Hatcher on February 27, 1943, in St. Louis, MO. They lived in California for a short time until Floyd was sent to Germany during WWII. Ruth lived in Venice with her parents until Floyd returned home from Germany and from that time on, they resided at their home in Granite City, where Ruth lived until the last couple of years.
To this marriage were born three children: Darlene Marie Hatcher, Ronald Floyd Hatcher (Carol), and Dennis Ray Hatcher (Nancy)
Ruth has six grandchildren: Kimberly Ann Kahn and Joshua David Kahn, (Darlene) Allison Beth Hatcher and Adam Kyle Hatcher, (Dennis), and Lorri Anne Hatcher and Michael Scott Hatcher (Ronald)
Ruth has five great-grandchildren: Autumn Ruth Kahn and Ashten Jobe Kahn (Joshua Kahn); Teddy Hatcher and Auggie Hatcher (Lorri Hatcher); and Mia Moore (Allison Hatcher)
Ruth was a member of Niedringhaus United Methodist Church since 1951. Prior to that, she was a member of the Venice Methodist Church. She graduated from Venice High School, never missing a day of school after first grade. She always took great pride in that fact.
She was a stay-at-home mom, always there when her children arrived home from school. She was a dedicated wife, mother, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was kind, patient, and loving. She was always by her family’s side when they needed her. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed planning and taking family vacations every year. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals and going to games as long as she was able. She always said she had a good life, even living through the depression as a child, with good parents, and the rest of her life with a good husband and children.
She will be greatly missed by her immediate family and other extended family members and friends.
Our heartfelt thanks to Hospice for all of their support and help. Donations can be made to AccentCare Hospice Care Team in memory of Ruth.
