Gary Allen Fischer, age 78, born July 11, 1946, in Chicago, Ill., passed away September 12, 2024 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, O’Fallon, Ill.
Gary grew up in the Chicago suburbs and served in the Army 1966-72 as a combat engineer and mechanic; he was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. He married Marcia Newburg August 11, 1973 in Evanston, Ill. Together they raised their two sons, Thomas and David, in Glenview, Ill., where Gary was proud to support his sons’ athletic events during school, through college, and beyond. Gary worked for Northwestern Tool & Die in the Chicago suburbs for many years. He and Marcia moved to O’Fallon in 2013, where they became active in St. Clare Parish. Gary enjoyed working on cars, watching Westerns and eating out with his family. He was a Chicago Bears and Cubs fan and was keenly interested in military history.
Surviving are his wife Marcia Fischer; son Thomas (Jennifer) Fischer, all of O’Fallon, son David (Maura) Fischer of Parker, Colo.; and four grandchildren Amanda, Logan, Haylee, and Lillian. Also surviving are two sisters MaryEllen (Mark) Guth and Jane Hoffman.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Elaine, nee Wischnewski, Fischer; and his step-mother Rosemary Fischer.

The family will receive friends after 10 am, Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 1411 Cross St., Shiloh, Ill. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, with Fr. James Deiters presiding.
