Johnnie Edward Soto, 74, died at 11:08 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 in Columbia, IL. He was born November 14, 1949 in Alton, IL, the son of the late Edward Collazo and Esther (Moreno) Soto. He retired in 1989 from the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. Surviving are one daughter, Ana Tame (Ernie) of O’Fallon, IL., one son, Edward Collazo Soto (Melissa Prieto) of Somerton, AZ, four grandchildren, Chynna Tame, Alex Tame, Michael Tame and Eduardo “Eddie” Jesse Soto, three sisters, Florence “Flo” Nelson (Ron) of Roxana, IL, Patricia “Patty” Stuart of Mattoon, IL. and Cathy Beiser of Phoenix, AZ. and many loving nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, David Soto, Jesse Soto and two sisters, Lucy VanHyning and Sophia “Lee” Sheafor. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association. Gent Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
