Loretta Krotz

Loretta Amelia Krotz, age 101 of Saint Jacob, IL, died Sunday, May 18, 2025, at her home in Saint Jacob, IL.

She was born on Monday, August 6, 1923, in Mitchell, IL, the daughter of Harry and Amelia (nee Klug) Hackethal.

On Saturday, January 20, 1945, she married Delmar Joseph Krotz at Mitchell, IL, who passed away on Friday, December 26, 2008.

Loretta was born in Mitchell, Illinois. On January 30, 1945, she married Delmar at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Mitchell. Loretta worked in the Employment Office at General Steel Castings Co. in Granite City, IL. Loretta and Del moved from Edwardsville to St. Jacob after they purchased the local tavern on August 6, 1954, and operated Del & Loretta’s Tavern until 1971 when they sold it to their sons.

Loretta was an active member of the St. Jacob community. She belonged to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was a parishioner at St. James Catholic Church. Loretta enjoyed many hobbies such as quilting, canning fruits and vegetables, family gatherings at the club house in Keyesport, and helping her church friends and anyone in need.

  • Daughter-In-Law – Irene Krotz, Caseyville, IL
  • Grandchildren – Theresa F. (Ronald “Butch) Frerker, Vernon D. Krotz (Stephanie) Krotz, Shea M. (Ashley) Krotz, Cody M. (Shannon) Krotz, Kendal R. (Jordan) Krotz, Nicholas T. Acree, Austin G. Acree, Amie Jo (Brent) Beckwith, Erin L. (Kevin) Wassell, Darren J. (Daphne) Reding, Carrie A. (Rob) Handling, Chad M. (Jessie) Reding, Tara M. (Dale) Kampwerth, Michael C. Krotz, and Step Grandchild – Cody K. Kluth

She was preceded in death by:

  • Daughter – Marlene M. Krotz, died 1/18/2019, Saint Jacob, IL
  • Daughter – Connie Sue Krotz died 9/6/90
  • Daughter – Kathy A. Acree, Moline, IL
  • Great Grandchild – Jacob R. Frerker died 10/21/1998

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 30, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church in St. Jacob, IL, with Rev. Kevin M. Laughery, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be at Keystone Cemetery in Saint Jacob, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Keystone Cemetery.
