Darlene M. Thomas, 88, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 10:03 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025.
She was born September 30, 1936, in Staunton, Illinois, a daughter of the late Martin and Anna (Robertson) Schubert.
She married Vernon J. Thomas on September 17, 1955, and he passed away on September 15, 2017.
She had worked many years at Montgomery Wards, Central Hardware and for J.C. Penney’s as a salesclerk.
She was a member of the Johnson Road Baptist Church in Granite City and was a avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. She loved spending time with her family and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Angela Gore of Godfrey; a son, Vernon “Joe” Thomas II and wife, Susie Thomas of Granite City; six grandchildren and spouses, Nicole and Spruce Spruill, Joe and Megan Thomas, Jason Kelsaw, Jennifer Nicholson, Joshua and Lauren Nicholson and Christopher Nicholson; eight great grandchildren; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dan Gore; a sister, Marcella Barnes and a brother, Herman Schubert.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, with Pastor Larry Blankley officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
