BELLEVILLE – The O’Fallon High School girls basketball team overcame an early deficit to lead at halftime over Cardinal Ritter, but would fall 54-40 in game seven of the SWIC Shootout Saturday night.
The Panthers got off to a slow start, trailing 14-5 after the first quarter. But they turned that around to lead 20-19 at halftime.
Ritter outscored O’Fallon 35-20 in the second half for the win.
O’Fallon only had five scorers. Josie Christopher and Symone Bynum each scored 12 points. Sasha Kelley scored six, while Jocelyn Mitchell and Quinn Zerjal each scored five.
O’Fallon falls to 3-2 on the season after back-to-back losses. The Panthers dropped their Southwestern Conference opener to Belleville East 54-47 on Thursday, December 4.
Cardinal Ritter, a private school from St. Louis, improved to 3-0 on the year.
They were led by Nylah Scales, who poured in 20 points. Trinity Jackson added 13.
The Panthers will soon take on another undefeated team from Missouri when they travel to Chesterfield on Monday to take on Marquette (4-0).
