CyberTip Leads To Felony Charges Against Madison County Resident

MADISON COUNTY — Steven E. Watson was charged with multiple felonies related to child exploitation following an investigation initiated by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office after receiving a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on December 30, 2025.

Investigators from the Digital Forensics Division began examining large amounts of digital data, photographs, and videos tied to Watson, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said.

The probe revealed that Watson was in contact with a juvenile victim from out of state. On Jan. 8, 2026, authorities served a search warrant at Watson’s residence and took him into custody without incident. Numerous items of evidentiary value were seized and examined during the search.

The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office presented the case to the court, and a warrant was issued and signed by the Honorable Nielsen.

The suspect, Steven E. Watson (W/M, DOB: 7/13/94), was charged with:

Count 1: Child Sexual Abuse Material (Class X Felony)

Count 2: Child Sexual Abuse Material (Class 1 Felony)

Count 3: Child Sexual Abuse Material (Class X Felony)

Count 4: Child Sexual Abuse Material (Class X Felony)

Count 5: Grooming (Class 4 Felony)

Watson remains in custody at the Madison County Jail. Officials have stated that no further information will be released at this time.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
