Community Appreciation Day

May 9 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

On Saturday, May 9th, from 11-4, the Old Six Mile Historical Society will host a Community Appreciation Day at the museum at 3729 Maryville Rd. Granite City, IL. Everything will be FREE: Food, Doroghazi Smokehouse, Drinks, Music, Games, Tours & Car Show!

Just bring a lawn chair and your family or friends. We want to thank the community for your generous support last year!

Our museum was built in 1837 by the Emmert family. It started as a two-room house, and Emmerts raced horses. Emmerts sold the house to the Zipple family after several years. The Zipple family lived in the house for many years and willed the house to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children upon their death. The Old Six Mile Historical Society, under the leadership of Georgia Engelke, secured the house and 1.75 acres from the Shriners. To this day, the museum and grounds are upkept by the officers, board members, and volunteers of the community. These same people fundraise, get donations, and volunteer many hours to keep the museum full of Granite City history and to keep it going. The museum gets no government funding.

Donations, no matter how small or big, are always accepted! We thank you for your support! And hope you can join us on May 9th at our event!
