Sophie Shapiro, Joi Story Win Two Events: Edwardsville Dominates Twilight Invite Team Standings

EDWARDSVILLE – Edwardsville dominated a Twilight Invitational Meet at EHS on Thursday night, April 23, 2026, with 175.5 points. The next finishers were Normal University (98), then Bloomington (83), and O’Fallon (81). East St. Louis posted 67 points, Belleville East 65 points, Alton 26 points, Collinsville 15 points, and Granite City 3 points.

Sophie Shapiro.Edwardsville’s Sophie Shapiro finished strong in the 100 hurdles, winning with a time of 14.67, edging Normal’s Hannah Safranek (14.99). Adara Martin of Edwardsville was fifth (16.71). Sophie Shapiro also won the 300 hurdles (42.89) and continued to show her overall dominance in both events as the season edges into May next week.

The Tigers’ Joi Story and Jayla Gathing were one-two in the shot put (13.34 meters and 11.79 meters, respectively.

Story also won the discus (46-23 meters) and Gathing was third (40.12 meters).

Adara Martin of Edwardsville was third in the 300 hurdles (47.39).

In the 100 meters, Joslyn Springman of Edwardsville was third (12.34), and Joanna Anoke was fourth (12.72).

ReMiyah Young of Belleville East won the high jump (1.60 meters).

Alex Wolfe of Edwardsville was fourth in the pole vault (2.90 meters).

Edwardsville’s Morgan Gestes won the long jump (5.37 meters); Alyssa Wong of Edwardsville was third (4.94 meters).

Lily Prindable of O’Fallon won the long jump (10.91 meters), and Talia Omotolo of Edwardsville was second (10.46 meters).

Morgan Gestes of Edwardsville was second in the 200 meters (26.29); Belleville East’s RaMiyah Young was third (26.41).

Lyric Jones of Belleville East won the 400 meters (56.61).

The Tigers’ Serena Shapiro scorched to first in the 800 meters (2:21.12, while teammate Ainsley Goodwin was second (2:21.27).

Edwardsville won the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 46.75 with the foursome of Springman, Sophie Shapiro, Gestes and Anoke. Alton’s Evans, Haynes, Lacey and Raglin posted a second with a time of 47.74.

The Edwardsville 4 x 400 relay of Goodwin, Delkus, Suhre and Serena Shapiro was fourth (4:10.21).

O’Fallon won the 4 x 800 relay with a time of 9:56.08. The foursome was Bush, Naveira, McCollum and Lewis. The Edwardsville foursome of Morgan Popelar, Madison Poplar, Jackson and Kerpan was second (10:00.61). The Edwardsville 4 x 800 relay and O’Fallon foursome have great potential on a state level as the season progresses.

Tigers Girls Squad Wins Triad Invite

Edwardsville’s girls recently won the Triad Invitational and walked away with the team championship.
