ROXANA – Four high school seniors from the metro area have earned Phillips 66 Community STEM Scholarships, recognizing their academic excellence and commitment to careers that will power a more innovative energy future.
Wesley LeBrun (Alton High School), Kinley Lucas (Southwestern CUSD #9), Shane Box (Collinsville High School), and Dylan Brueggeman (Edwardsville High School) are among the 54 students nationwide selected from a competitive pool of applicants planning to study science, technology, engineering or math at a technical school or four-year university.
“Receiving this scholarship has strengthened my confidence to pursue my goals as a Mechanical Engineering major by recognizing my hard work and intelligence,” says Wesley LeBrun. “Beyond aiding with tuition, this scholarship will open doors to opportunities like extended research or studying abroad during my higher education.”
Students enrolled in technical programs will receive $2,000 scholarships. Students attending four-year universities will receive $5,000.
Scholarships are renewable each year through graduation if recipients remain enrolled full-time and maintain the required GPA standards.
“We are proud to recognize these outstanding students for their academic excellence and commitment to serving their communities,” said Melissa Erker, Senior Public Affairs Manager at Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery. “Education remains a key priority for Phillips 66, and we are honored to support these talented scholars as they begin the next chapter of their educational journeys.”
Through the company’s social impact programs, Phillips 66 works to create stronger, safer and more resilient communities in the areas where it operates. The company invests in education at every level, beginning in elementary and continuing through post-secondary education.
“This scholarship lets me pursue my materials science studies and career without as much of a financial burden on me and my family,” says Dylan Brueggeman. “It’s an investment in my potential to contribute to this rapidly growing industry and I greatly appreciate the chance to prove myself.”
