Jerry Wayne Moore, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, June 4, 2026 at his home in Fairview Heights, IL after a long battle with cancer.
Jerry was born Tuesday, April 22, 1941 in Corinth, MS to Cecil and Alta Moore. He had a long and varied career that saw him travel abroad and across the country. He spent four years as a navigator on B-50 planes in the Air Force. After leaving the service, he worked in network computer infrastructure for IBM and helped install the fiber optic network for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He later sold insurance and in retirement drove a bus for the O’Fallon school district. In all endeavours, he was an expert connector of people and ideas who used laughter to build networks.
Jerry could always be found working with his hands and loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was a longtime soccer referee at the amateur and professional level, even refereeing international FIFA matches. He loved to coach his kids’ teams and was an avid golfer and fisherman. There may not have been a more devoted St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis City SC fan in the metro area.
He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of O’Fallon, IL, where he volunteered as an usher.
Jerry served in the the 1370th Photo-Mapping Wing of U.S. Air Force and fought in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as an Airman First Class.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Alta, nee Gilliam, Moore; and sister, Faye Goeman.
Surviving are his wife, Carol, nee McAdams, Moore of Fairview Heights, IL; children, Jerry Wayne (Jenny) Moore, Jr. of Murfreesboro, TN, Steve (Dawn) Moore of Mt. Juliet, TN, John (Katie Adams) Moore of Affton, MO, and Erin (Griffith Moore) Moore of University City, MO; grandchildren, Shelby (Tanner) Mashburn, Daniel Moore, Bradley Moore, Connor (Chloe) Moore, Hattie Adams-Moore, and Lulu Adams-Moore; great grandchildren, Benjamin Mashburn, Boston Mashburn, and Knox Moore; sister, Barbara (Charlie) Caudill; brother-in-law, Dennis Liss; sister-in-law, Barbara (Robert) Cummings; and dear nieces and nephews.
